EMC Nigeria has been named as the best place to work in this West African nation for 2016 by the Great Place to Work Institute (GPTW), an organisation that awards the world’s greatest employers. A regular on the GPTW ranking since 2012, EMC reported a significantly improved position by claiming the top spot among ICT companies in Nigeria.
The official list is a ranking of the 10 best employers based on the confidential feedback of employees and an audit of management practices. Other companies in the top 8 were Courteville Business Solutions, Guinness Nigeria (Diageo), SC Johnson, Microsoft, Poise, Konga.com, and Chemical & Allied Products Plc.
GPTW operates globally and delivers gold standard lists and rankings that identify and classify companies that offer the best working environments. The organization has also developed robust models and assessment tools for understanding and improving workplace cultures To select the ‘Top Companies to Work for in Nigeria’, GPTW conducts an evaluation of each participating company. Two-thirds of the company’s score is based on the results of the Institute’s proprietary Trust Index© survey, which is sent to the employees from each company. This is the sum of employees’ experience with management, their colleagues, with the EMC brand as well as the work they do.
According to the organisers, EMC Nigeria was particularly successful in this part of the evaluation. GPTW recognized our success in creating a collaborative, high performance work environment that is built on trust and offers employees on-going professional and career development opportunities.
EMC’s strengths highlighted included the following:
- We earned significant points for strategically placing the health and happiness of our employees at the center of the business and empowering HR leaders with innovative tools and resources.
- Our ‘people first’ practices were applauded – such as the onsite talent acquisition teams that work with business leaders to identify potential candidates; the innovative leave policies that entitle employees to paternity leave, marriage leave and compassionate leave in addition to the employee’s annual leave entitlement as stipulated by labour law.
- The company was also recognized for our industry-leading approach to training and development through the EMC Individual Development Program (IDP), which helps employees chart out and achieve their long term career goals through a series of specific learning and development programs.
- EMC’s consistently maintained a fair balance between employee engagement and learning, effective leadership and customer satisfaction to create a high performance environment.
This award is a great honour for EMC, and reflects the fruit of our efforts to treasure our employees. We know how much we expect of them, and therefore do our best to give back and show our appreciation of the time and effort they invest in making EMC top of its class time and again.
Our success is their amazing achievement. Because here at EMC, we constantly reiterate the power of people to successfully lead business transformation. We strive to facilitate an all-inclusive, transparent environment that enables employees to develop and participate in the overall success of the company.
Our strategies and policies are aimed at fostering a family-driven culture that is founded on the principles of teamwork, collaboration, learning and development. We take pride in our culture of trust and innovation and value the dedication and commitment of each and every member of the EMC family.
This ranking and recognition not only serves as an essential benchmark to help effectively chart the success of our organization and HR best practices; but also serves as an essential reminder of how our success as a company is founded on the success, health and happiness of our team.
